Hello! Nice to meet you!
Hello there! Thank you for visiting my Blog! My name is Ricardo Franco. I am a self-taught artist! I do illustration, animation, and concept art. Here, I will post various art pieces and animations that I've done and I make them.
I started making art as a necessity a few years ago. I was programming a game and eventually I came to a point where I had to put some art into it. So I started studying about art and how video game art is made.
I tried painting my game assets with a mouse but it was way too difficult. I eventually got a small Wacom tablet that allowed me to make some assets. With this tablet, I started making some landscapes while studying the Impressionist movement. I found that the Impressionist movement was a good starting point of study for me because it allowed me to put more focus on giving the impression of a scene instead of focusing on details.
I still remember watching several Impressionist art tutorials. I came home one day from work and decided to give it a shot. I painted what you see above. I didn't even have Photoshop at this time yet. I made the piece using Krita, an open source digital art program. I had very little knowledge of any art fundamentals. In the end, the result is kind of ugly but not too shabby. I'm lucky to have a very supporting wife, family and group of friends that encouraged me a lot to keep going with my art.
It wasn't until I decided to study more and more and gradually I got better. I've expanded my skills beyond the digital medium. I've gone into watercolor, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, ink (pen and brush pen) and even 3D.
So what is my ultimate goal? Two years ago I started studying animation and I've fallen in love with it. I've made it a goal of mine to eventually work as an animator for a studio. I'll be posting the result of my studies as I complete them. Sadly, animation is one of those things that takes a long time to make so finished products are very slow to produce. In the meantime, I made this one a couple of months ago. I was practicing animating fire effects. It is, indeed, my first animation that's not a bouncing ball.
So, with all that in mind, please stay tuned as I post the making of my latest work, "Last Stand".

I kept going and made a couple of ugly ducklings:
Yuk... Just yuk...
